Rockstar Games Presents the Red Hook Criterium, the world’s premier track bike criterium series. After three exhilarating races in Brooklyn, London and Barcelona we return to Milan for our seventh year to complete the 2016 season and crown our Series Champion.
The women’s race will be the most thrilling since the 2013 inception. American Ash Duban (Affinity Cycles) sits atop the leaderboard just 7 points ahead of British rider Kiera McVitty (Why Be Normal?). 2015 Red Hook Criterium Series Champion and current All-Time Wins leader Ainara Elbusto (Conor WRC) could also win the 2016 series, as she sits only 10 points out of first. She may have been even closer if it had not been for Italian professional Rachele Barbieri (Cyclance Pro Cycling / IRD Carrera Corse) who won in Barcelona on August 27th, who is now attending Milano No.7. Barbieri could upset the rankings completely, taking valuable points from Duban, McVitty and Elbusto.
The individual men’s field sees Allez-Allez Specialized duo Colin Strickland and Aldo Ino Ilesic sit atop the field, similar to how they have raced the entire series. Both men have finished 1st and 3rd respectively in all three races this season, which is a feat never before attained by any individual or team in Red Hook Criterium history. However, 2015 Series Champion, Italian Ivan Ravaioli (Team Cinelli Chrome) is within striking distance of second place should he win prime points and/or win the race. It is worth noting that no individual athlete (including our women) have ever won all four consecutive races in a season. Should Colin Strickland win Milano No.7, he will tie All-Time Wins leader Ainara Elbusto bringing his total to 5. Even more impressively, however, he will tie Elbusto having won all 5 in a row setting the record most consecutive win streak in the history of the event. Will Ravaioli and the other 130 Italians in our field be able to defeat the Specialized duo?
The Red Hook Criterium’s unique racing format challenges competitors over a short, technical race circuit riding brakeless, fixed-gear bikes traditionally raced on a velodrome. Attracting skilled athletes from multiple disciplines across the world all competitors need to possess street-tuned handling skills and exceptionally high levels of physical fitness to compete for a place on the podium and cement their place in Red Hook Crit history.
